Background & Origin

The Pressure Equipment Association Inc came into existence on 13 th July, 1972, largely in response to Government measure which were perceived by manufacturers as overbearing, and unduly interfering in what was a well ordered and safely operating industry.

The foundation membership of 13 companies soon grew as prejudices were put aside and the value of an association forum was realised.

The PEA quickly set about its original charter, establishing contact at senior levels within Governments, canvassing its views vigorously, obtaining some concessions and undertakings in terms of Government activities.

The value of the Association participating in Standards writing was quickly recognised and this emphasis has prevailed throughout the history of the Association with substantial representation at all levels in the Standards Australia organisation.
