3. Innovation in the design, manufacture and management of pressure equipment in industry leading to:
- creation of the full scale fully welded all steel steam locomotive boiler for use in tourist and other railways around Australia.
- the inception, formation and implementation of an operating regime leading to the introduction of unattended boilers throughout Australia with consequent improvements in safety and saving of many millions of dollars.
- cold stretched stainless steel transportable vessels for use as shipping containers and road tankers for cryogenic and other liquefiable gases.
- design and manufacturing of LP Gas fuel vessels of carbon and stainless steel, the latter taking advantage of the higher strength attained by cold working of austenitic stainless steels.
- an alternative design Standard for heat exchanger tubeplates.
- development of a performance based Standard for the production of small pressure equipment in large quantities and recognizing the quality and productivity gains available using serial production.
- a Standard leading to the implementation of quality management and the assessment of hazard levels in the use of pressure equipment.
- a Standard specifying the requirements for the periodic In - Service inspection of pressure equipment.
- an alternative method for design of vessels subject to external pressure.
4. Sponsorship of welding research by funding of a project conducted by the Welding Technology Institute of Australia.
5. Assistance with the funding of Australian representation at international forums in the pressure equipment industry.
6. Active participation in the establishment and management of the Australian Institute for the Certification of Inspection Personnel which examines and, where appropriate, certificates inspection personnel and design reviewers.
